Back from Torpor

Good evening,

This is Todd from the Precipice Podcast Network with some exciting news. Well, if you found this, then you already know what it pertains to. The Precipice Podcast Network is back, sort of. We have refocused our efforts a bit, and will be producing Actual Play Podcasts. You probably have a lot of questions, so let me preemptively answer them.

Q: What is an Actual Play?
A: Serializes a recording of a group playing a tabletop roleplaying game. Typically, the listener hears the dice rolls, the out-of-character discussions, and the social interaction that surrounds the in-character story being told at the table.

Q: Will you stay true to this?
A: Yes, that is our goal. Not to say there won't be edits, but the intention is to use as much of the original recordings as possible. By this I mean, some things may be cut in editing, but nothing new will be added. Edits will be for time sake, mostly cutting dead air. As for out-of-character chatter, there tends to be very little of it to begin with, so unless it has to deal with the game itself, it will also probably be cut.

Q: What game are you doing for the Actual Play?
A: So there in lies the fun part, it's not just one. We have a few games kicking around in a shared universe.

Q: Shared universe? Okay, I'll bite. So what is this universe?
A: We will be playing in one of my favorite game universes, the World of Darkness. There are so many different game lines we can do in just this setting. Plus, I feel, the storytelling aspect and storyteller system lends themselves more to a radio play style podcast, then other systems.

Q: Are there specific games you are looking at within the WoD?
A: Yes. Obviously, we will be returning to modern nights in Vampire: the Masquerade. I also have plans for Werewolf: the Apocalypse, and Mage: the Ascension, Changeling: the Dreaming currently.

Q: Which rule sets are you planning on using?
A: For V:tM, we are going with 5th Edition. The rest will be with their most current edition, which in most cases is 20th Anniversary Edition.

Q: Will they be their own listings or all under the same banner?
A: While these are different games, I do feel they are pieces of a whole picture. As such, we will be releasing them under the same banner, Precipice of Darkness. Originally, the idea was just to do another Vampire game, and the working title was Precipice by Night, but once I started to dig into some of my tabletop books, I realized there was a larger World of Darkness to explore. Not everyone is into vampires, so I polled my community and potential Cast members to see what they would be interested in. It is how we landed on the 1st 3 games we are in pre-production on.

Q: You talk about a Cast as opposed to players, why?
A: They are just as important to the stories being told I am as the Storyteller. Their decisions shape mine. The one thing I loved about WoD growing up was it was very much collaborative storytelling, every person involved has their voice and can influence where the plot goes. They are playing characters in an ever changing world, an evolving story. Plus, I feel calling them players lessens their importance in these projects.

Q: What does the release schedule look like?
A: That is to be determined. I learned a lot from doing NbN, in that sometimes just uploading it right after recording and not knowing when the next session would be, hurt the overall experience. So, this time, we will not start releasing until there are a few weeks of content available, just in case we have to miss a recording session.

Q: How long will each episode be?
A: That is to be determined, but I have an idea of episode length. One of the issues we had with NbN was it's length and services not liking 3-4 hour episodes. So to alleviate that issue, I do not see an episode going more than 2 hours.

Hopefully soon we will be updating this more regularly with where you can listen, who our Cast is, and such.

Until then. Just remember we are all on the Precipice,

Todd Evf
